Arrgh

I can say a zillian times that I trust in the Lords will.

And then something will test that.

This week it is the waiting for the ash cloud to move and the plane to take off as planned on Sat, so my parents can come see their little Hopie and their big girl Heidi. There is so much longing and planning that have gone into this trip, and excitement and counting down of sleeps and cleaning schedules. It does seem utterly unfair.

I have been reminded this past week of the passage in Job chapters 38-41. It seems so appropriate to the weeks events. A volcano erupts and chaos is the result. All of our plans are shown for what they are, our plans. God is indeed awesome, He was the one who created all things, all the wonderful things outlined in Job, and the volcano.

And so I am somewhere in between, wondering at the majesty of our God, who can create such a world and is so infinitely more than man, and feeling a huge disappointed.

Which leaves me where?

In a place where I have to choose, choose to trust Him yet and His wonderful plans for us, and the timing of them, to pray for a miracle and to praise Him whether I meet a plan on Saturday or not. God is good.

Easter Wreath

 

It seems so hard to keep this week in perspective. I don't want to let it pass and find that I skip to Sunday's celebration without fully realising the cost of Friday. But I am looking forward to Sundays celebration.

And how do you couple it all with the commercial things. We do Easter eggs, and use them to decorate our home, I guess in a similar way to we decorate a tree at Christmas, but how do we ensure that they don't take away from the truth and seriousness of Easter and why we have it. I desperately don't want to do things because I think they are fun(egg hunts) or pretty (egg wreaths), if they take away and belittle Easter, I want to be willing to loose the things that take away from Christ.

And in writing all this out I am realising, that I want to let them know that this is a very special time of year. We decorate at Christmas and at Thanksgiving, and at Easter because it it a very special time of year. We are not having an egg hunt because the Easter bunny left them, but because we want to mark days as special, making a special effort to give our girls and ourselves a special event, as a celebration. Because the finished work at the cross is worth celebrating. I am praying about how to put in place good traditions, and am excited to see how our Easter celebration pans out over the years.

Beginnings in Canada- Observations from the first 2 weeks

the grass is yellow in winter ie it’s dead! and everything is really dry and dusty
all the shops etc are square….not a pointy roof in sight
each house on the suburb estates is slightly different
it really is cold enough to freeze large amounts of water, ie so that you can walk on them
STATIC arrgh! you can get a shock any time any where. It’s because it’s so dry here
it is so sunny……except when it’s snowing and it snows lots. (people assure us we haven’t seen anything yet)
there are so many fast food outlets….large numbers, lots of different types
the Rockys are an amazing sight
Heidi is a good little girl, she seems to love the constant sunshine
the light switches are the wrong way round
it’s amazing how quickly vocab adapts. I’ve said stove, stroller, crib, cell phone, store and mall without thinking it's strange!
